The open source platform DSpace was chose for the implementation of the repositories at EKT. D-space has been developed by MIT and supports more than 300 repositories worldwide. EKT has developed significant extensions in D-space mostly in issues that pertain to improvement in search functions, indexing in the Greek language, record interconnectedness, customized record presentation, automated quality-control and data processing. In this way the best possible functionalities for were developed for the repositories, and the long term preservation and accessibility to the records, as well as interoperability issues with other repositories were ensured.
