October 20-24, National Hellenic Research Foundation, Vas. Konstantinou 48, 11635, Athens

Between October 20 and 24, the National Documentation Center (EKT) is participating in the Open Access Week celebrations for the 4th consecutive year. Open Access Week, a global event now entering its eighth year, is an opportunity for the academic and research community to continue to learn about the potential benefits of Open Access, to share what they’ve learned with colleagues, and to help inspire wider participation in helping to make Open Access a new norm in scholarship and research.

This year’s main theme of activities run by EKT is “Horizon2020 and Open Access” addressing in particular the requirements raised by the European funding programme and aiming to provide support to all those involved. The events are particularly relevant for researchers, research librarians and project managers of European projects funded by Horizon2020.

The main event of the celebrations is the workshop “Horizon2020 and Open Access” which runs on October 22 and is dedicated to the Open Access requirements for Horizon2020 projects. EKT’s specialized staff will give presentations on topics such as handling copyright issues, designing data management plans and the use of specialised tools for meeting the open access requirements within Horizon 2020. At the World Café session that will follow, participants will break out in smaller table discussions where they will have the opportunity to discuss more in depth the above issues.

Additionally, throughout the whole week, the National Documentation Center’s library will be open for the activity “Learn, Listen, Ask”. During opening hours visitors can obtain informational material regarding open access activities and EKT’s initiatives and tools offered to cultural and scientific organisations, such as the open access e-publishing platform and the repository services run by EKT. Those who wish to learn more about open access have the opportunity to attend short presentations every day at 11:00 and 14:00 and ask any questions around open access policies, implementation and tools.
