Open Journal Systems (OJS) was chosen for the online publication and management of the electronic journals. Significant extensions and customizations were made on the platform. As a result it now supports the specific needs of each journal in terms of editorial process, policies on public release of content, types of publications, the metadata schema and thematic categorization. This choice ensured a stable environment for the scholarly journals according to international practices, the long-term preservation of their contents, interoperability with internet search engines, and therefore their visibility, the ability for internet based magement of the entire editorial process, and the reduction of the time necessary for the management of the various processes.

Finally, based on the Greek translation of the OJS platform by the University of Patras, EKT adapted to the Greek language a number of commands and messages that support the needs of the journals in the peer-review process.
