Taking into consideration the latest international developments in the fields of the open source software and open access publishing, ΕΚΤ adopts the principles of OA and:

• Supports all the international initiatives of the Open Access Movement
• Has signed the Berlin Declaration on Open Access to Knowledge in the Sciences and Humanities, thus promoting OA and encouraging scholars to publish their research on these principles
• Improves the Hellenic national infrastructure on Research and Technology by undertaking the development of open access repositories and journals as part of a project "National Information Research and Technology System (NISR+T), Phase III" project, funded by the 3rd Community Support Framework, and conceived and developed by EKT. It thus substantially promotes the "gold road" (through journals) as well as the "green road" (through repositories) to Open Access.
• Actively promotes Open Access issues in Greece by developing and maintaining the portal www.openaccess.gr . Aim of this portal is to provide information about current international trends in Open Access, as well as promote EKT's Open Access activities, to the Greek research, academic and wider community.

• Actively contributes to the debate on Open Access in Greece by developing and maintaining a blog on Open Access at www.openaccess.gr/blog. The blog is complementary to the site www.openaccess.gr and  serves as a forum of constructive discussion on Open Access issues among all interested, with the aim of bringing to the fore current issues, concerns and practices of Open Access in Greece.

•Successfully organized in December of 2008 an international conference on Open Access entitled "Open Access: The Future of Scientific Communication" .
