The National Documentation Center (EKT) of the National Hellenic Research Foundation (NHRF) is organizing an international conference entitled "Open Access Infrastructures: The Future of Scientific Communication". The conference will be held in Athens on December 15 & 16, 2008 at the Leonidas Zervas Auditorium at NHRF.
Conference Goals
The International Conference has the following goals:
- To present recent developments and trends in Open Access Infrastructures internationally and in Greece
- To highlight the benefits for the scholarly community of implementing and using Open Access infrastructures
- To promote the work of EKT/NHRF and of other Greek and international institutions on open access infrastructures
- To promote the interest in and development of Open Access Infrastructures in Greece
- To present assessments and possible scenarios on the development and the future of scholarly communication
The international conference is part of the project "National Information System for Research and Technology, Phase III, Open Access Electronic Repositories and Journals". The conference comes as a response to the increasing interest of the international scholarly community in taking advantage of the benefits that open access infrastructures offer in disseminating scholarly research and in the exploitation of research results.
Academics, researchers and publishers from the European Union and U.S.A., representatives of the European Commission and the Greek public agencies are going to exchange ideas and experiences, to inform and raise awareness on issues of Open Access Infrastructures (Repositories & Scientific Journals).
The international conference is addressed to the whole scholarly and research community, to research-funding organizations, to businesses, to libraries and to the wider public.
