2.5 million Euro Open Access Fund Established by the Dutch Organization for Research
11/02/2010
The president of the Dutch Organization for Research (NWO ), Professor Jos Engelen, recently announced that his organization created a 2.5 million Euro Open Access fund. This fund will defray costs for Open Access publication of NWO-funded research. Each research project can claim up to 5000 euros to defray publication fees in Open Access publications. Intended to enhance the Gold Road to Open Access, i.e. journal publishing, this fund only covers costs for publication of scientific journal articles. Further, NWO has set apart another 2.5 million euros to defray related unforeseen costs. According to NWO president, if insufficient progress has been made in a year's time, the NWO may render Open Access obligatory for the research that it funds.
