A new landmark deal announced today will give Scottish secondary schools access to a range of high quality online reference resources plus an international news archive from 1 August, all for a fraction of their original cost.
The Becta-funded initiative, JISC Collections for Schools, has made a major agreement with the lead organisation for curriculum development in Scotland, Learning and Teaching Scotland, allowing all Scottish secondary schools to have unlimited user access to such resources as Oxford Language Dictionaries Online and Keesing's World News Archive at a discounted rate. Becta, the government body for technology in learning, is now working to encourage all schools in England, Northern Ireland and Wales to follow Scotland's exampl
e. Already widely welcomed by the schools' community, JISC Collections for Schools makes available - at discounts of up to 75% - copyright-cleared images and newspaper archives plus art, music, history, science and general reference resources.

Learning and Teaching Scotland (LTS), the lead organisation for curriculum development in Scotland, has already signed up to six of the eleven JISC Collections for Schools resources on behalf of all Scottish secondary schools.
